Forced into a reshuffle before kick off due to illness, and with 2 of the bench also succumbing as well, GAB 2s nonetheless took to the field of the back of successful January which saw them score 28 tries on the way to 3 wins in the 4 games. Knowing it would be a harder challenge against a Bicester side who have been having a strong season, the determination was clear in the first half.
GAB had the wind and the slope to their advantage in the first half and, after early Bicester pressure had resulted in a score for the hosts, grew into the game. Some good defence, backed up by good scramble defence, restricted Bicester to that early score and they turned territory into penalties, which Alfie Morton kicked for a half time score of 7-6.
The second half started badly for GAB. With Bicester bringing a couple of powerful runners from their large 7-man bench and now with the elements in their favour they scored 4 quick tries after GAB previous defence determination failed them.
GAB do regroup and the game returned to centre field tussle. Chris Good rolling back the years to put in the hard yards, Gerardo Pradillo with another prominent display, and Danny Rae his usual destructive self felling men twice his size. Bicester were able to score a couple more tries by the end of the match and the final score was 43-6
Removing the third quarter from the scoreline would be more reflective of the effort that the team put in, but sadly that quarter did happen and those defences lapses put the game well out of reach.
GAB 2s now have their first weekend off of 2024, before we look to get back together on the 17th for a friendly game with it being their league bye-week.
